12km west from Krakow...

Krakow is beautiful and we simply love it. But! there is a treasure hidden a little outside of the city. Imagine: one of the oldest Polish Abbys, that remembers the beginning of the country, located between the riverside and forest. It is truly one of the most picturesque places of Krakow (and Krakow has a few good looking places, so Tyniec must feel very appreciated to be on top of the list!)

Discovering the 11th century Benedictine abbey is nice, watching sunset from a cliff is even nicer, enjoying the bike ride on the side of Wisła River is pretty awesome, perusing through handcrafted goodies can be so fun, breathing fresh air of Wolski Forest is exhilarating, admiring a view of a lake will leave you speechless and you can take all of that, put it together and have yourself an amazing, alternative and one of its kind experience that is far from banality.

This can be one of the most fascinating, memorable and enjoyable tours you could take.

Highlights of the tour:

  • Saddle up and explore the stunning Cracow countryside on a 4-hour, guided bike tour.
  • Set out at a relaxing pace as you head past Pope John Paul II's old residence and take in the fresh air along the Vistula River.
  • Then, pull over for a stop at the Tyniec Abbey, dating back to the 11th century.
  • Check out the museum, discover the interior of the church and shop for souvenir goodies made by the monks themselves as you learn the history of the abbey from your guide.

Nature, history, fresh air, gorgeous green surroundings and a fun bike ride - it cannot get any better, we promise :)

Tyniec Abby - all you need to know

In 1044 a contemporary King of Poland founded the Benedictine abbey in order to help Polish country to grow and Christian faith to strengthen. Was this goal accomplished? I think it's safe to say that it was a big success :)

The history of Tyniec Abby was turbulent, it was relocated a couple of times and it had to deal with incursions of Polish occupiers, but this story has a happy ending. The Abby survived all the rough times and now is a peaceful shelter for monks and pilgrims.

Today, the Abbey is still inhabited by monks, who take care of the historic building, work on the formation of young brothers, care for the elderly and sick monks from the community, take care for the garden and modest crops, do crafts and study to deepen their knowledge. In the abbey, there is also a Museum, in which souvenirs from the entire existence of the Abbey are gathered.

Tyniec has become a favorite place for bicycle trips and more. It is located on the Vistula River on a limestone hill and is surrounded by the Wolski forest. It is an extremely charming place and allows you to spend time with nature, breathing fresh air and at the same time to learn about the history of one of the oldest cult objects in Poland.

It is really a magical place! Wise monks, almost 1000 years ago, knew where to settle and how to take care of this place. A shop with cosmetics, liqueurs, and delicacies, and the restaurant "Mnisze Co Nieco" with simple but excellent cuisine will be a great addition to the whole experience. Come and enrich your body, mind, and soul.
