For almost 800 years the Market Square has been the central square of Royal City. What has not happened here only during this time! Trade rows were selling goods from all over the world and Krakow merchants made their fortunes from it, the city authorities strictly monitored the order, in the dungeons of the Town Hall the executioner tortured the suspects, and the kings parade through the square to get to their castle. What a time it was... But these times are not entirely missing! Even today you can find the most interesting traces of past events on Market Square, and even more so under Market Square! We invite you to take a walk on one of the most beautiful squares in Europe with a visit to the Dungeon Market Historical and Archaeological Museum.

The underground exhibition presents the activities of Krakow, as well as the resulting cities with the Hanseatic League and the shops and cultural activities of medieval Europe derived from them. Presented monuments (coins from the 14th century, ceramics, accessories, medieval tools, 600-year-old hygienic use), centuries-old use of exchange on the Krakow market square, and preserved fragments of paved roads developed using medieval road construction technologies. The process of continuous appearance on the market with the remnants of civilization for several hundred years occurring instead of the so-called archaeological witnesses - preserved earth profile. Krakow's everyday life is documented by collected objects: clay figurines, shoes, dice, the exit from the west, beads and medallions, as well as Tatar arrowheads. A unique piece of art worldwide is a 693-kilogram lump of lead (the so-called loaf).
